How cool is the new Grinderman artwork? Designed by Nick Cave and Tom Hingston Studio the artwork is slick and shocking. Heathen Child above is the first single of off Grinderman 2 pictured below. Below that is the video for Heathen Child a gloriously camp affair featuring Nick Cave as a Roman Centurion among other things directed by John Hillcoat.

Grinderman 2 is released 13/09/2010.

And here it is. Made all the more hilarious by the inclusion of kids singing the song and Cee-lo’s suit having one of the most disgusting cuts I’ve ever seen. Seriously he looks like mini-me only maxed.

Arcade Fire – The Wilderness Downtown Interactive Video

Fuck me, I’ve seen some cool band websites before but the interactive video The Wilderness Downtown is incredible. You’re asked to enter your home town and away the video fires up. Opening several windows and bringing them onto the screen at the right time to sequence with the video. Not only that but the town you entered in the first instance is displayed in several of the windows as a rotating street view image or google maps’ satellite view with bird flying over it and everything. Absolutely incredible use of html5.

Aphex Twin even makes the crowd creepy

How cool is this? Aphex Twin well known for being a bit weird and forward thinking has started using live facial recognition on the crowd. The result? A massive screen with members of the audiences dancing around like nutters with the classic creepy Aphex Twin faces superimposed on their own. The fact that it doesn’t appear to be working perfectly makes it all the more entertaining and visually arresting.

Armand Van Helden & A-Trak present Duck Sauce – aNYthing music video

A very cool homage to The Jackson 5′s – Dancing Machine. I dare you to try not to laugh at 2m10. The track itself is awesome, as is everything Armand Van Helden and A-Trak do, and the video fits the song perfectly. Some very tight dancing.

Sour – 日々の音色 (Hibi no neiro)

Just spotted this video in my RSS feed and it’s too cute not to share. Shot from the Sour fan base (from around the world) and using only webcams what the directors have orchestrated is truly wonderful.

Sadly the reason it was brought to my attention was through the blog You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice which highlights potential rip-offs. The typical trend is a creative does something truly creative and someone within the ad industry rips it off. Although sometimes its just some punk stealing someone elses t-shirt designs. Still sucks.

Whilst not strictly a music video, I was impressed by Stephen Rose’s direction for this short video for Tom Scott’s new clothing range. It features Thurston Moore on the soundtrack to great effect and makes for a very haunting piece of media.

My verdict is for their first ever music video they’ve done a great job and I’d love to see more.

Beatles: Rockband long format advert (and game intro)

This is a beautiful piece of animation. Essentially tracking the Beatles career (all 10 years shorter than you think eh?) the animation progresses, becoming increasingly more psychedelic as the music does so (although not quite chronologically correct). Hands down one of the best animated shorts I’ve ever seen. It almost makes me want to buy the game.
