Crazy cool controllerist Moldover has released one of the best limited edition album covers I’ve ever seen. It perfectly represents his reliance and mastering of the technology he produced the album on. Moldover has put up a youtube video to demonstrate the CD…check it out.

Love the colour blend above (Echo Expansion – VA) and the 3D text and upside down Big Ben below (Telekinesis! by Telekinesis).

Some beautiful artwork out this week. Up top is the fabulous Luke Vibert. The artwork is both playful and sophisticated – a perfect match for Luke’s music.

This is a beautiful piece of animation. Essentially tracking the Beatles career (all 10 years shorter than you think eh?) the animation progresses, becoming increasingly more psychedelic as the music does so (although not quite chronologically correct). Hands down one of the best animated shorts I’ve ever seen. It almost makes me want to buy the game.
Thanks to Iwan from the Automatic for the heads up.

This is Monogrenade’s first music video and they’ve set the bar pretty high for the rest of their careers! Directed by Christophe Collette the video is a whirling dreamlike stop motion. The post production effects are great. The result is truly haunting.
Check out Christophe Collette’s website for more of his work – it’s a flash site so I can’t link to anything more than the index page but it’s fairly easy to navigate.

Only one album cover I’ve seen that I like enough to post on the blog this week. Well done A-Ha.

These stand out like sparkling diamonds in a sea of turd. Why is it so hard for record labels to put albums out with attractive artwork? I know they have to fulfil certain criteria the biggest of which means it must favour being picked up by your average shopper in Tesco but that doesn’t mean we should be faced with soulless mediocrity.
The above image, Speck Mountains – Some Sweet Relief, is very bleak and offers a poor example to my above complaint but that’s not to say it’s a great looking album cover.

I’m sure there’s an obvious theme running through the videos I post here (it’s always a simple concept really well done). The concept here is Jack White and Alison Mosshart (two of the most creative, sexiest rockers on the planet) shooting at each other. That’s it. Combined with the great track it makes very really compelling viewing. I’m really not sure what it says about there Mother/Child relationship though. I’ve never wanted to shoot mine.

I hate the summer for two reasons: firstly I turn redder than an embarrassed raspberry and secondly no one releases albums because it’s festival season. Thankfully I found two which met the high bar set by my fussy self. Above is the Benny Andersson Band cover which does a great job with a simple bit of type nicely placed in an attractive photograph. It’s certainly not a wonderful design we’ll be talking about for weeks here but it’s a solid piece of work that does its job well.

Another poor week in the world of album cover design. La Roux stands out because of Elly’s hair and I quite like the font used. King Tubby similarly works because of the excellent hand drawn type.
