This is a less a music video and more a retro-futuristic sci-fi short sound-tracked by Emperor Machine. A machine travels from an alien dystopia in a top secret experiment beyond time and space through to an extremely simple existence. Waiting for the machine is a primitive life form who worship the new Emperor Machine. I’m loving this.
The diamond sequence in the beginning is worthy of a post of its own and was designed by Ralph Pinel. The video itself was written and directed by Cassiano Prado with the help of a whole load of talented people. Click here to see video and more whodonewhats on vimeo.

Sorry a bit late this week – I have a good excuse. I became Daddy Rich for the second time on Wednesday morning and everything has been a bit hectic since then. That aside this week’s album covers are all a bit on the thin edge of the wedge. The ones I’ve chosen are of course great but I had to dig pretty deep to find them. I’ve already posted about the Mars Volta artwork here, so they don’t get to be the cover shot again. Instead is the fabulous Future of the Left – mixed in the recording studio beneath my office/studio.

This weeks round-up features me! I designed the Gran Ronde album (above). The whole artwork is based around some concept photos my friend Sion Thomas took and I stole from his personal collection (with his very kind permission).
More covers by the Lemonheads, Client, Fabric Live and the Low Anthem

This video cracks me up. Again it’s the simple idea well done principle that makes the video stand out. It’s a HD embed so feel free to watch in full screen!

Some truly horrible artwork out tomorrow from some big names. Black Eyed peas artwork is awful, as is the new Placebo album and the chickenfoot albums. That said the few that stand out and crack’a'lacking. The Dirty Projectors artwork above is simple but very striking.
More album artwork from Bjork, Sonic Youth and Datarock...

One insane music video this one – flashes of tron meets alice in wonderland meets flash gordon. It’s trippy as hell. The music is produced by Justice and the video’s done done by a whole load of cool people:

One of my favourite ever bands are releasing a new album at the end of the month and the new artwork, as you can see, is great. Interesting they’ve gone the illustrated route this time.

A couple of cool looking albums out this week but nothing astoundingly beautiful, clever or truly inspiring; with the exception of the Ghost of a Thousand artwork which looks pretty ace.
More from Patrick Wolf, Scott Matthews, Jon Allen and The Eels

Sam Dunn does some pretty sick looking designs. I’ve featured her work before in the post about Holy Roar Records and it was her comment on that post that saw me flicking through her own work with a certain green eyed jealousy at her illustration skills. Her style would fit well with a design agency like Go Media but with a British rather than American take on things.

One of the weirdest and most disturbing music videos I’ve ever seen involving dolls. It was directed by Model Robot and is part two of 10 parts each part soundtracked by a track from the album. Each video is based around an idea from Passion Pictures with a different director for each video. Cool eh?
